The 7th Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival fell on September 22. The 1,200 mu (80 hectares) of kiwifruit in a kiwifruit industrial park of Shibadong Village are now ripe. In the planting base, one can see plump kiwifruit adorn branches, and workers are busy picking them.
“Each of us can pick 500 to 1,000 kg of kiwifruit per day, and can earn about 100 yuan per day,” said a local villager.
Since 2022, Tian Qingshan, a fruit grower, has contracted 120 mu (8 hectares) of land in Shibadong to plant kiwifruit. In the past few days, he has been busy loading the picked kiwifruit onto trucks with workers and transporting them to the purchasing point.
“We started picking kiwifruit from September 12, and on the first day, we harvested 6,500 kg. Now the picking is coming to an end. It’s expected to harvest about 25,000 kg this year, and earn 150,000 yuan in sales at a price of 6 yuan per kg. Next year, we plan to double the sales,” said Tian Qingshan.
This year, it’s expected that more than 200 tons of kiwifruit can be harvested in the Shibadong kiwifruit industrial park. Nowadays, kiwifruit has become an important industry to increase villagers’ income.
